Useful tips and tricks for Summon Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist : Link Evolution.
Summon Monsters (Useful Tips and Tricks)
Monsters can be “Normal Summoned”, “Flip Summoned”, or “Special Summoned” by taking them from a player’s hand, Deck, Graveyard, etc, and placing them on the field.
A monster Summoned to the field can be used in battle, or its effect can be activated, during the next Battle Phase.
Summon (Normal Summon]
The most common form of Summon involves moving a card of Level 4 or lower from your hand to the field in face-up Attack Position.
You can only Summon a monster in this manner once per turn.
Tribute Summon (Normal Summon]
This type of Summon involves moving a Monster Card of Level 5 or higher from your hand to the field.
In order to Summon a monster like this, you have to send (Tribute) a Monster Card(s) already on your side of the field to the Graveyard.
(This is called a Tribute Summon.)
When Tribute Summoning a monster of Level 5 or Level 6, you must offer 1 Monster Card as a Tribute.
When Tribute Summoning a monster of Level 7 or higher, however, you must offer 2 Monster Cards as a Tribute.
As with a “Normal Summon”, this type of Summoning can only be done once per turn.
Set (Normal Summon)
Similar to a Summon, placing a Monster Card on the field in face-down Defense Position is called a “Set”.
When Setting a high-level Monster Card (Level 5 or higher), you’ll need to offer a Tribute just as you when you Summon.
As with a “Normal Summon”, this type of Summon can only be done once per turn.
Flip Summon
When the player flips a face-down Monster Card on the field to face-up Attack Position, this is called a “Flip Summon”.
A card cannot be Flip Summoned during the turn it was Set.
Special Summon
Monsters can also be Summoned by using the effects of certain cards. This is called a “Special Summon”.
This type of Summon can be done as many times as the player wants to do it, as long as no limitations are otherwise specified.
Fusion Summon (Special Summon]
The Summon of a Fusion Monster is called a “Fusion Summon”.
In order to “Fusion Summon’1 a card, you’ll need the Fusion Material (Monster Card(s)) specified in the card text of the card you wish to Summon, along with the “Polymerization” Spell Card.
Both of these need to be either in your hand or on your side of the field.
(The Fusion Monster itself will be Summoned from the Extra Deck, so this method cannot be used to Summon any cards from the Graveyard or anywhere other than the Extra Deck.)
When you successfully “Fusion Summon” a Monster Card, the Fusion Material used, along with the “Polymerization” Spell Card, will be sent to the Graveyard.
This type of Summon is treated the same as a “Special Summon”.
Ritual Summon (Special Summon)
The Summon of a Ritual Monster Card is called a “Ritual Summon”.
In order to perform a Ritual Summon, you must have the Ritual Monster Card you want to Ritual Summon, the Ritual Spell Card specific to that Ritual Monster, and Monster Card(s) to Tribute which are equal to or exceeding the Ritual Monster Card’s Level.
All of these cards must be in your hand or on your side of the field.
When you successfully “Ritual Summon” a Monster Card, the Tributed monster(s) and the Ritual Spell Card are sent to the Graveyard.
If 1 Monster Card is sufficient for a Tribute, you are unable to choose any more than 1 card to offer.
This type of Summon is treated the same as a “Special Summon”.
Synchro Summon (Special Summon)
The Summon of a Synchro Monster Card is called a “Synchro Summon”.
In order to perform a Synchro Summon, the total levels of a face-up Tuner monster on your field and another one or more monsters have to be equal.
You must use at least one face-up Tuner monster, but you can use any number of other face-up non-Tuner monsters.
By sending these monsters to the Graveyard, you can Summon a Synchro Monster that has the same level as the total level of the sent monsters.
Synchro Monsters are Summoned from the Extra Deck, so the cards that exist in the Graveyard or the cards that are not in the Extra Deck cannot be Summoned this way.
This type of Summon is treated the same as a “Special Summon”.
Xyz Summon (Special Summon)
The Summon of an Xyz Monster Card is called an “Xyz Summon”.
In order to perform an Xyz Summon, you need a number of face-up Monsters to be used as an Xyz Material.
The number of Xyz Materials and their required level will vary between monsters.
Xyz Monsters cannot be used as an Xyz Material.
Once the Xyz Monster has been successfully Summoned, the Xyz Materials used to Summon it will be stacked and placed underneath the Xyz Monster.
Xyz Monsters are Summoned from the Extra Deck. Cards that exist in the Graveyard or the cards that are not in the Extra Deck cannot be Summoned this way.
This type of Summon is treated the same as a “Special Summon”.
Pendulum Summon (Special Summon)
Once per turn, during your Main Phase, you can declare that you are Pendulum Summoning.
Check the Pendulum Scales on the sides of your two Pendulum Monster Cards, then Special Summon as many monsters as you want from your hand and Extra Deck whose Levels are in-between those Pendulum Scales.
Whenever one of your Pendulum Monster Cards on the field (regardless of which Zone it is in, or even if it is a monster or not) would be sent to the Graveyard, place it face-up in your Extra Deck instead. You can Pendulum Summon it back to the field later!
Link Summon (Special Summon)
The Summon of a Link Monster Card is called a “Link Summon”.
In order to perform a Link Summon, you need to send a number of Link Materials from the field to the Graveyard equal to the Link Rating listed on the bottom right of the Link Monster Card.
The type of monsters that can be used as Link Material is listed in the description of the Link Monster Card. Each monster used as Link Material to summon a Link Monster must be face-up on the field. Normally, one monster equals one Link Material. However, Link Monsters in play can count as either one Link Material or a number of Link Material equal to its Link Rating.
Link Monsters have red Link Arrows equal to its Link Rating that point to other Zones on the field. Players can summon Link and Pendulum monsters from the Extra Deck to their Main Monster Zones the Link Monster points to.
When two Link Monsters have arrows pointing to each other, they are “co-linked”. Normally, players can only control one of the Extra Monster Zones. However, if a player creates a chain of co-linked Link Monsters pointing from one Extra Monster Zone to the other, they may summon a Link Monster in the other Extra Monster Zone.
