A new adventure awaits you in this second installment of the turn-based RPG series set in the world of Monster Hunter! Become a Rider and form bonds with friendly monsters known as Monsties to fight alongside them as you take part in an epic story. A guide on how to fix 60 FPS lock in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin.

How to Fix 60 FPS Lock

Using RTSS

If you are using RTSS and from time to time create custom settings (e.g. fps limit or detection level) for different games, this may fit your problem:

The game executable only listens to “game.exe” like some other games. Also, some programs like Nvidia’s own profiles and RTSS are only looking for the process name. So get sure that in RTSS you do not have any entry with “game.exe”. If there is one, either change it or remove it.

I had one from another game where I limited the game to 60fps and since both, the other one and MHStories2 listen to “game.exe” both were affected by this RTSS rule.

Also I noticed that there are many Nvidia profiles with “game.exe”. I removed all of them to avoid any issues by Nvidia loading a profile tuned for a completely different game.
Easiest way to do this is to create a new profile, try to add the game.exe form MHStories and it will list all the profiles that could cause issues. Make a screenshot of it, search for all the profiles and remove them if you want to.

I did this before I figured out my main issue, so this is highly likely not necessary. But as said, it may cause issues if it is loading some configs optimized for an entirely different game. (by Hakairo)

Go in the game archive and write into the config file your fps under framerate manually. In my case 120fps. After i do that, the games run crazy good at 120.

Try turning off V-sync.

Search for the config.ini file in the game directory and force your target FPS.
