Deep Rock Galactic – Beginner’s Guide (Equipment, Driller, Gold)

In this beginner’s guide of Deep Rock Galactic, you can learn tips & tricks (equipment, driller, gold, gun, shield etc.) on how to survive in Hoxxes IV, how to work together and how to not get kicked by the angry longbeards.

Use All of Your Equipment!

  • Everyone has the Laser pointer. (default: hold CTRL) Use it to mark priority enemies, mark unreachable minerals or that one boolo cap you need. This also shows team depository and other things while it is equipped.
  • As the Scout, you have a useful flare gun (default: 4) Many scouts forget to use it, but fire it at the ceiling of a big cave to make spotting minerals and glyphids a lot easier than it is in the dark.
  • Everyone gets a map of the caves they have explored in their Terrain Scanner. (default: hold M or TAB) Use it to see where rest of the team is at if you get lost.
  • As the Driller, look at your Terrain Scanner to see if there are any shortcuts you could make. If you see a cave nearby, equip your Power Drills (default: 3) then dig a tunnel there.

Teamwork is Key!

  • As the Engineer, place platforms on hard to reach mineral veins on the walls. This allows the Scout to grapple to them and easily mine the minerals!
  • Many of the big enemies have their front covered with tough armor which absorbs almost all incoming damage, making them difficult to kill. However, their back has an exposed weakpoint so lure them around your team and they can get an easy shot at it!
  • Combine the powers of the driller, platform gun & ziplines together and its possible navigate any cave, even those awful vertical chasms.
  • If someone in your team is low on health, mark crystals of Red Sugar with your laser pointer so that they can find it and heal.

How to not Get Kicked?

  • Avoid joining hard difficulty games early on, marked with hazard 4 or higher. You will most likely not survive them.
  • Don’t take more than 1 ammo rack from a resupply pod, others need ammo too! Running out of ammo because someone took your ammunition from the supply pod is definitely frustrating.
  • Never build the uplink or the fuel cells on your own. This awakes a swarm, and you can lose the mission if you don’t stay defending it. Before you build it, make sure your team is ready nearby and maybe call in a supply drop while building it.
  • Before you press the big red button after completing the objective, mark it with your laser pointer or ask about it in the chat. If somebody else agrees, its usually safe to press it without making someone mad because they missed some rare resources.

Other Things:

  • If you see lots of tiny glowing crystals in a small area, you can find a big gem buried in the middle of it.
  • Don’t spam the call MULE button. if the MULE is nearby (equip the Laser Pointer to see where) it is faster to go to it than have it come to you.
  • If you ever hear or see a huge glyphid covered in glowing orange tumors, run away from it as far as you can.

Use Your Stuff

You’ll be getting 3-4 resupplies at least per mission. Each one gives +50% ammo.

This means if you haven’t used half of your stuff by the time the next resupply comes, you’re wasting it, use it or lose it!

Gunner Shield

You cant shoot through the gunner shield Bubble from outside.

Aka you can shoot inside the Shield bubble out. but you can’t shoot through the shield from outside.

Specially Nades or fat boys can wipe your team.
