Besiege – How to Change PC Controls

An easy guide (How to Change PC Controls in Besiege is the newly released as a full game) that I tried to make as thorough as possible. This guide helps you to better customize your gameplay. Even if you only want to change your “move camera settings” you can use this guide to change even more.

Tutorial

Look inside of the Besiege directory. (If you don’t know how to find it go into steam library and right-click besiege and press “Browse local files”) then open the folder “Besiege Data”. Inside you can find a file called “controls.xml” you can open this file with notepad and edit the text.

For me, I wanted to change the “start simulation” button, so I edited the control entry to a different button.

This is what I saw:

<ControlEntry Name=”Simulation”>

  •       <Options>
  •         <ControlOption>
  •           <Keys>
  •             <KeyCode>Space</KeyCode>
  •           </Keys>
  •         </ControlOption>
  •       </Options>
  •     </ControlEntry>

With this, I changed “Space” to “F12”. (Keep in mind that if you are editing the file, that you exit the game through the in-game menus instead of alt+f4)[/previewimg]

This is what it looks like after I changed it:

  •     <ControlEntry Name=”Simulation”>
  •       <Options>
  •         <ControlOption>
  •           <Keys>
  •             <KeyCode>F12</KeyCode>
  •           </Keys>
  •         </ControlOption>
  •       </Options>
  •     </ControlEntry>

In most peoples’ cases, you may want to change the “move camera settings, so here is what it will look like:

  • <ControlEntry Name=”MoveCamera”>
  •       <Options>
  •         <ControlOption>
  •           <Keys>
  •             <KeyCode>W</KeyCode>
  •           </Keys>
  •         </ControlOption>
  •         <ControlOption>
  •           <Keys>
  •             <KeyCode>A</KeyCode>
  •           </Keys>
  •         </ControlOption>
  •         <ControlOption>
  •           <Keys>
  •             <KeyCode>S</KeyCode>
  •           </Keys>
  •         </ControlOption>
  •         <ControlOption>
  •           <Keys>
  •             <KeyCode>D</KeyCode>
  •           </Keys>
  •         </ControlOption>
  •       </Options>
  •     </ControlEntry>

After changing the keys to your desired keys, or just disabling/deleting the commands, just save the file and start your game. And that’s it.
