7 Multiplayer Tips and Tricks – Halo: Reach

Guide involves Halo: Reach multiplayer tips. Lets take a look:

As much as Halo’s campaign is adored by everyone, I believe its multiplayer is the heart and soul of the series. Halo Reach just dropped on Steam as a part of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Our Halo Reach Multiplayer Tips and Tricks Guide will help you get a headstart over other players and earn those sweet rewards. Even if you’re an old-school Halo player, these tips will freshen up your memory regarding some of the things you might’ve forgotten.

Halo Reach Multiplayer Tips

It’s been 9 years since Halo Reach originally released on Xbox 360 in 2010. In this guide, we’ll cover some basic and advanced multiplayer tips and tricks that will help you better understand some of the game mechanics that the game doesn’t tell you and taking advantage of these mechanics.

1. Fall Damage

Unlike Halo 2 and Halo 3, there is fall damage in Halo Reach. Not all falls will kill you but it’s definitely something to keep in mind.

2. Assassinations

To assassinate a target, you need to sneak behind an enemy and hold the melee button. You’ll perform a badass animation and guarantee a kill but I should mention here that assassinations take a couple of seconds and leave you completely vulnerable for the duration.

If you don’t want anything to do with assassinations, you can perform a simple backstab and move on. Aside from normal assassination, you can also perform mid-air assassinations or the ones in which you jump on enemies directly.

Lastly, do note that you can’t assassinate Hunters in Halo Reach.

3. Understanding Armor Abilities, HP, and Shields

These things are arguably the most important when it comes to scoring kills and ensuring your own survivability. Let’s talk about all these one by one:

You’ll find Health Packs, which will regenerate HP slowly. It’s important to note that if your shield is down, your HP won’t regenerate on its own. Knowing where these Health Packs spawn on different maps is something you’ll naturally learn as you continue to play more – give it time and try to pay attention.

Armor Abilities in Halo Reach replace equipment, introduced in Halo 3. The following are all the Armor Abilities you can choose from in the game:

  • Evade: It allows you to instantly roll/dodge in any direction to avoid gunshots and grenades.
  • Jet Pack: You can use it to gain vertical height but has a short timer.
  • Armor Lock: Incredibly overpowered! It makes you invulnerable for a short time. If activated, it slows down players who melee you and can also deplete their shield if they’re close. It can also destroy vehicles if they hit you at high speeds.
  • Sprint: It provides you additional movement speed when your weapon is lowered.
  • Camouflage: It makes you near-invisible for a short duration and also disables enemy radar. Firing your weapon disables it.
  • Drop Shield: It replenishes your HP and protects your allies inside it.
  • Hologram: It allows you to create a decoy of yourself to distract enemies.

Lastly, coming to your Shield, it replenishes slowly over time but only if you stop sprinting for a short while. If you keep on sprinting, it won’t replenish and you’ll most likely die in the next gunfight.

Therefore, try to hold back sprinting for a while if you took damage and don’t jump in the next fight immediately.

4. Power Weapons Locations

In Halo Reach, Power Weapons are incredibly powerful. Similar to Health Packs, you’ll find them placed on the maps. You should try to learn where they’re located on each map to be able to turn the tides in your favor.

Obviously, this is something you’ll learn over time, but it’s something to start doing from the get-go.

5. Loadouts and Weapon Customization

Another thing that Halo Reach introduced is loadout. These aren’t like custom loadouts from Call of Duty games (those are only available for Custom Maps) but are selected depending on the game modes or maps. In addition to this, there isn’t any weapon customization. And so, everyone is on the same playing field.

6. Improving Accuracy and Weapon Tips

Unlike other Halo games, Halo Reach has bloom. What this does is that it decreases your accuracy as you continue to hold fire – this isn’t the case with other Halo games.

When it comes to sniping in Halo Reach, you should always try to aim at your enemy’s upper chest. Headshot’s hitbox in Halo Reach is easy to hit so you shouldn’t face any difficulties. With that being said, here are some weapon-specific tips to keep in mind:

  1. DMR in Halo Reach is just like the Battle Rifle but is a single-shot instead of 3-burst.
  2. Pistol in the game is great. It boasts an incredible rate of fire and can zoom.
  3. Banshee Bomb is back!
  4. Use the Needler. You won’t regret it.
  5. Plasma Pistol continues to drain power as you hold down the overcharge. Plasma Repeater is essentially a Plasma Rifle.

7. Elites

As opposed to Spartans, Elites boast increased Shield but decreased HP. Their loadouts also vary for Invasion and Firefight modes. I should also mention it here but you can’t play Elites except in Invasion, Firefight, and customs. They also don’t have an option to customize armor like it used to be in Halo 3.
